Westwood, California is a small unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, California. It was established before the city of Los Angeles annexed the area during World War II. Its population has been stable since 2000, when it had a population of 58,061. In 2009 it had a population of 57,785. It is served by Santa Monica – Westside Regional Transportation Authority and Rapid Transit District lines 464, 460 and 487. The UCLA campus is in this community and a major subway stop for downtown Los Angeles is located near the boundary with the city of Santa Monica.
Westwood is a district of Los Angeles and the surrounding areas that is named after its location within the western region of the city. It was developed as a separate community in the early part of the 20th century, with new homes built in close proximity to one another. Most of these homes were single-family houses on small lots, while there were some two-story buildings as well. It remained an enclave mainly residential until the mid-1950s when UCLA was established.
