Veneers - Song Cosmetic Dentistry
Smile consultation
The first visit for veneer treatment is personalized consultation with Dr. Catharine Song, our Porcelain veneers specialist. She will chat with you about any concerns you may have about your smile, evaluate your dental and gum health, and walk through all the different options that are available for you to achieve your dream smile. This includes:
- Taking X-rays of your teeth and jaw
- A comprehensive dental examination
- Pre-workup intra-oral photos
- Walking through any questions and the cost of treatment
If you both decide that porcelain veneers are the best choice for you, we will then start designing your custom smile.
Design
During the second visit, Dr. Song bring her customized design for your veneers and discuss the treatment with you more in detail. You’ll actually be able to have a detailed conversation with her regarding the shape, the color she’s matched with your style, as well as any other modifications you’re looking for.
After that, she will prepare your teeth for temporary provisional veneers by removing a very thin layer of your enamel, allowing for more space for the veneers to adhere to in your mouth, and making sure that your future teeth don’t look or feel unnatural. The team will then take an impression of your teeth with a putty mould, and then sent to our trusted dental lab for the creation of your long-term veneers.
Until the lab sends the final veneers back, we will place temporary veneers onto your teeth, so you can continue on without any interruptions while the lab works.
Placement
Finally, when we receive the final set of permanent veneers from the dental lab, we will schedule you for the final placement appointment.
Dr. Song will first remove the temporary shells on your teeth, clean your mouth, and then use an acidic gel called etch to roughen up the surface of all your teeth to allow for proper adhesion of the veneers.
Then, Dr. Song will adhere the veneers in place with a special dental gel, and use a blue light to cure the gel and speed up the hardening. This process only takes a few minutes for the permanent veneers to be permanently bonded.
Smile ready!
Most patients report back that there is virtually zero down time after getting their new porcelain veneers placed on their teeth. Some say there might be slight sensitivity to heat or coldness when they eat or drink, but never report anything more severe than that.
Patients should take good care of their new smile and practice the same good oral hygiene techniques just as with their natural teeth. This ensures that the porcelain veneers can last the longest time possible (upwards of 10 years) and minimize any damage to the veneers.
